Andrew MacAskill

"My commitment is to work with diverse suppliers, and their representatives, to find a practical way of building a local and diverse supply chain that is 'best value'."

Why is sustainable development important to you?
"My family and I have lived and worked in London all our lives. I have seen many changes, but what has always shone through is London's ability to balance its economic growth, environmental responsibility and manage the broad range of social issues and opportunities that exist in our diverse culture. This is what makes London such a great place - its ambition to provide an enviable quality of life for its inhabitants and visitors.

The challenges for London are significant and the balance difficult. Addressing these challenges and getting the balance right is at the heart of our sustainable development.

Growth and wealth generation are vital to provide jobs and opportunities for everyone that lives here. Achieving this growth whilst minimising any adverse impacts on the environment now and into the future requires changes in the way we do things - how we build, how we move around our great city, how we use energy and how we generate and dispose of waste are just a few examples.

For me, key to improving our quality of life is maximising the great potential of our people - creating an inclusive, accepting and welcoming environment - providing equal opportunities for everyone."

What does being a London Leaders mean to you?
"As part of the Skanska family I aim to set, encourage and sustain high standards of social and environmental responsibility. This includes promoting and ensuring good labour standards, equality, diversity and inclusion in the supply chain. My challenge within the London Leaders programme is to find a practical way of building a local and diverse supply chain by clearly defining 'best value' procurement in terms of economic, social and environmental value. Being a London Leader helps me with my mission of 'making a difference'."
