Definition of sustainable development and why it is important for London
From the perspective of a resident and elected representative from an inner city area, sustainable development is about the interaction of economic, social and environmental aspects which together can improve the quality of life, now and for the future - issues such as air quality, traffic congestion, access to economic and social opportunities and overcoming discrimination.

The priority London needs to focus on to become the world's most sustainable city
The key task is to enable individual Londoners to make the necessary changes to their own purchasing and lifestyle decisions. Companies need to act and governments to set the framework, but both are constrained by what consumers and voters will accept.
