Definition of Sustainable Development and why it is important for London
The phrase 'sustainable development' means many things to many people..London encompasses the very best and worst in development. Most Non Londoners would see it as a rich city, but it also contains some of the most deprived inner-city areas in Europe. Millions of Londoners get along cheek by jowl with each other every day - London is marvellously cosmopolitan - but we all grumble about crowded public transport. The resources of London deliver life chances to many people. Sustainable development has to take the best of these and work to eliminate the worst: Promoting thriving local communities within London, life chances for more and in an environment where people want to live is what Sustainable Development means to me.
