Definition of sustainable development and why it is important for London
Sustainable development means living within the limits of what the planet can sustain and sharing resources fairly with people around the world and for future generations, whilst leaving space for wildlife and wilderness. If everyone in the world lived like the average Londoner we would need three planets to support us, but there are working examples in London which show that living within our means ('One Planet Living') is not only possible, but attractive and affordable, bringing about happier, healthier communities, new jobs and business opportunities.
The priority London needs to focus on to become the world's most sustainable city
An action plan with time bound targets for London covering all aspects of sustainability - resource use, economic and social well-being.
