Plan Zheroes puts surplus food on the map

A team of volunteers from the international engineering enterprise Laing O'Rourke have kindly agreed to spend a day volunteering with the Plan Zheroes surplus food campaign on November 17th.

Coordinated by London Leader Marcus Jamieson-Pond and Plan Zheroes – a project of London Leader Lotti Henley - the volunteers will work in teams across London, in an "Apprentice" style challenge, inspiring food retailers, caterers, restaurants and cafes to stop sending their surplus food to waste and to donate it to local charities instead.

The food businesses will sign up to an online map, created by Plan Zheroes, which connects donors of surplus food with nearby charities. The map allows retailers to register themselves and the food they have available. Local charities can then log on to the map and see what food is available in their Borough.

The Plan Zheroes team will be taking part in the Feeding the 5000 event in Trafalgar Square on November the 18th along with the GLA Food Waste Team and author of "Waste" Tristram Stuart. Charities including FareShare and FoodCycle will be helping to raise awareness of food waste and Plan Zheroes will be promoting their interactive map.
