Sustainable development - Making it work

Making Sustainability Work

Using our Framework

Our Sustainable Development Framework for London and our 'Making your plans sustainable: A London Guide' give practical guidance on how to apply the virtuous cycle approach. The Framework is underpinned by four key drivers - Taking Responsibility, Developing Respect, Managing Resources and Getting Results, as a way to apply the Framework and virtuous cycle thinking. We use our Framework when:

  • Undertaking Sustainability Appraisals on proposals, policies and projects;
  • Providing early input into policy proposals; and
  • Thinking strategically about sustainability issues in London.

See our Commentary page to see how to apply this approach in practice to a range of Mayoral strategies.  Discover Virtuous Cycle Thinking with our interactive tool that provides further resources for how to achieve sustainable results against our Framework.

Measuring London's progress

We measure London's progress in achieving sustainable development through a core set of quality of life indicators.
